From what I read on the MM2H application form:
"Security bond is to be submitted for main applicant only. However, for dependents added after application has been approved, Personal Bond has to be submitted for each dependent."

It is confusing. It seems that security bond is paid, upon landing in Malaysia for the final steps before obtaining the MM2H pass, for the main application only. But there is no explanation on what personal bond for each dependent is and when it should be paid.

By the way, have you made the MM2H on the new MM2H online portal introduced in July this year?

I'm planning the trip to Putrajaya later in May to get the MM2H, as I applied directly with no agent. How long does it take there? Will it be sufficient to arrive 2-3PM to get this done the same day?

I don't know how long it takes normally - hopefully someone else can answer that - but I think I am correct in saying that mid May to mid June will be Ramadan and therefore normal hours will not be normal. Everything will be at half speed on the mainland. You will probably need to check with Putrajaya if they will be operating in afternoons during Ramadan.

I think the above suggests that there would be NO additional bond payment (either personal or security) provided the names are on your original application. So it is imperative to put as many eligible relatives (or personal maid - although I see from looking at that section there is a RM250-1500 bond that must be paid depending upon nationality) on the application as possible. This, of course, may involve additional paperwork.

To add an additional "Catch-22" to the situation..."
  • Please note that tertiary educational institutions (private colleges and universities), requires their students to have a Student Pass. Therefore, MM2H dependents who are enrolling into tertiary educational institutions, are required to terminate their MM2H Social Visit Pass in order to apply for the Student Pass and should be insured throughout their stay under this programme."

The "bond" in personal bond is a little bit misleading, it just means you vouch for your dependents, has nothing to do with payments. The only bond that involves money is the security bond that you as the main appicant has to pay. The amount depends on nationality, I think I paid 2000.

Yes, kids only can stay under MM2H until universitiy, then they need to apply for a student pass.

So warn the person that you want to witness your signature that they need to dig out their passport. Also read carefully the guidance if you have any non-standard dependants. For example if you are the legal guardian of a minor rather than the parent, or you are the step parent to your partners child.

The main bit of red tape so far has been certification of copies. Basically the MM2H office wants to know that anything that is copied rather than the original has not been doctored. Hence the need to get the consulate to certify copies against the originals.

But if you are worried, rather than be put off by the process, engage an agent to process the paperwork for you. Part of their service is to ensure that all the paperwork is properly completed and presented in the best possible light.
Do the copies have to be certified by the consular? Or can it a done by a Notary?

A frustration in dealing with any office in Malaysia is that the rules keep changing. Rather than post the current rule, the best answer that I can give it that you should visit the MM2H website and in particular scroll back through the recent advice notices. There was a recent advice published on this very question.

Apply Directly With Us - MM2H Official Portal

They are pretty specific about what copies (passport specifics page, marriage/birth certificates of dependents, bank statements) must be certified and which not (resumé, IM.12 Form, MM2H application forms). If one provides the originals -some discussion on how to create "originals" of the bank statements is on the site- one doesn't need certification. The Statement above has pulled off the "Commissioner of Oaths" from the list...so now one must find a Solicitor or Notary Public.

BTW Here's a snippet I thought interesting.
"Letter of Confirmation from Medical Specialist/General Practitioner (if accompanied by disabled children above 21 years old)"

So do they allow disabled children (meaning birth children, not age) "above 21 years" of age as dependents???

We are a family of 3. My hubby, Naeem, and me and our son Zak who is 13. Since the MM2H visa takes so long to get, we are going to proceed this way.
Zak is being accepted at a school in Penang. He will start in January and at that time, the school will apply for a Student visa and I will then get a Guardian visa.
In the meantime, Naeem is applying for his MM2H visa.
1. Should he mention us on the application OR wait to add us later after he actually has the MM2H. I was told it was not possible to ask for a student and guardian visa if you are already applying for an MM2H.
2. The MM2H application asks for the contact information of his sponsor in Malaysia, since we are doing it ourselves what do we put? We don't know anyone in Malaysia.
If we were using an agent, then they would be the sponsor.

I have another question. My husband is self-employed. He has an LLC company, he is the sole owner and he draws a salary. The paychecks are deposited in our personal bank account. On the Application letter, should he mention that he is the owner of the company? Or should he just say he is an Employee of the company?

1) Not sure. I'm certain that you cannot HAVE two different visas at the same time. You have to cancel one and get the other. But many people go from work visa to MM2H, or vice versa. Or from MM2H to Married Visa. It would not seem to be an issue for your son as he will have a Student Visa and it is not essential to have the Guardian. But I'm not certain that mentioning that the Guardian is present in Malaysian and wants to be a dependent on the MM2H will present problems. Maybe someone else has done this.

2) Leave it blank. The sponsoring organization for self-applicants is MM2H.You'll pay the bond for the Principal. Supplementary names should be on the application as you may have to pay a separate bond otherwise. That means that you may have to pay another bond if your name is not on the application (with all that documentation). Now you've already submitted a REFUNDABLE bond for the Guardian visa so should get that back and be able to submit that for the MM2H. Both of your MM2H bonds are refundable.

3) Well the company is not a liquid asset. So not relevant to that aspect of the application. Unless the company has a whopping big amount of cash in the bank. Then you might have to demonstrate sole ownership. Then you might put down [Sole Owner/CEO/Director].

If that cash in the personal account then no reason to putting "owner" down.

In that case I'd just give his title (President/CEO] and salary. And show the pay warrants/deposits via the bank account.

Yes. A friend has a severely non verbal autistic daughter who is 25 and stays with them, here in Malaysia. She is a dependent. The family find Malaysia much easier than the UK because they are able to get far more home help, and live together in secure housing via a compound.

Wow! Thanks for this tidbit...a very interesting benefit to MM2H. Obviously with trained and trusted home help it would be a much easier experience than some other countries, though in many other ways people with disabilities have greater difficulties here (mainly infrastructural and accessibility issues). Those latter issues also impact many of the elders on the MM2H program as well.

In my case I had an LLC, was a sole owner and sole employee. On my application I included both the salary and the dividends I paid myself as part of the MM2H income requirements. I only stated that I was an employee of the company, not an owner.
I did not need the value of the company to meet the deposit requirements. Advise from my agent was that I would not be able to use the cash holdings of the company as proof of deposit anyway. (same as you cannot use value of stocks held in publicly listed companies as proof of deposit)

Has anyone been to Motac recently to settle the final step of MM2H ie. get the 10year social visit pass stamped on your passport?

I was there earlier this week, at mid-day, to collect my approval letter (as direct applicant, not via agent) at Level 10 and it was very crowded. Just wonder whether they have a quota for each day and you need to be there real early to get the queue no. for that day or end up having to come back another day?

Btw, my approval letter is dated end July 2019 but the online check & track system still shows status as "Pending committee approval".
