Is it just me that is poor ? :))
Is it just me that is poor?? )
I am new here! nice to meet you all. Although my stay may be brief.
I am a Brit by birth and 22 years and a Yank second - my USA pension comes from there and now I reside in Central Mexico for the past 2 years.
Malaysia is on my short list of SE Asian countries live in. I have searched for my TOPIC.. but i am AMAZED that no one seems to care about the huge monthly pension income or savings thats needed to qualify for residency!
My $1,800 is plenty to live on in SE Asia.. it is just myself a 63 old retired male. My savings is only a few thousand $$$.
So my question; are there any creative, legal ways to stay in Malaysia? Are exceptions ever made for just being a nice guy?
Cheers,John

Hi and welcome to the forum
How about the Philippines retirement visa? Here's a link to a sticky topic on the SRRV Retirement Visa.

Or the Sri Lanka retirement visa?

Or Thailand?
I don't think we have a dedicated topic on retiring in Thailand. But you could always start one up Here's the Thailand sub-forum:
Thailand - British Expats
All countries have different criteria for their visas. If you think that Malaysia is hard, take a look at Singapore.

You say you have only a few thousand dollars savings? So... what would you do in the event of an accident, medical emergency in Malaysia? You need to have a think about these things. You can be relatively healthy in your 60s, 70s even, but I'm sorry to have to tell you that the body does wear out eventually. It happens to us all

Holaaa from Mexico. Thanks for your responses and some reasoning. Much appreciated.
I chose Malayasia first because its infrastructure, on paper, seems to be btter than the aforemntioned options, Cambodia being at the bottom of the infrastructure list and Singapore at the top.
Living in Mexico has taught me many things about affordable healthcare. If yoy cant afford healthcare... BE CAREFUL. So I walk slower, do not drive, eat even more healthy etc etc... tripping in mexico is how most people end up in the hospital.
Thailand IS on my radar. I am not evn sure WHERE Sra Lanka IS... I will persue the other suggestions as to other countroes to live in.
HOT items on my checklist are: AFFORDABLE..less than $1,200 a month allows me to save. Summer temps not above 35 c on average, safe.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.
