Article in "The Expat": No New Approvals in 10 months;bans on nationalities/jobs
I just received my new October issue of "The Expat" and in the "Expat News" section it states
Reviewed? Or Approved? The implication below suggests that the Ministry of Tourism has, in fact, reviewed...but that the Ministry of Home Affairs has been the agency that is clogging up the processing.
Is this simply their way of killing off the program by making it dysfunctional?
" Finally the Tourism Minister announced he would assign a task force to clear the backlog with a target date of June 30th. Unfortunately that did not work, and the backlog is still substantial. In fact it seems that not a single application submitted this year has been reviewed even as we approach the 10th month, despite the official processing time being four months.
The situation has been made worse by the decision to require the Ministry of Home Affairs to review all approved applications, notwithstanding the rigorous review they have already received.
On top of that, the Ministry has apparently placed further restrictions on applications by banning the nationals of some countries from applying, as well as people who worked in certain professions- mostly law enforcement and the military."

When people started reporting a back log to MM2H approval last year, my first thought was...
With the new government in power, the slow down was associated with putting new people in charge/power.
Then when Dr M made his "we are not selling passports with MM2H" the slow down pointed towards a political angle.
Then...with all the talk of balancing the federal budget, they were perhaps looking into ways to increasing some type of new taxes for new MM2H requests.
Maybe a slow bureaucracy is the the best excuse ???
