Both Mulsanne & Golf GTI no manufacture in Malaysia. Unable to enjoy the tax exemption.
Only 1 car per family application. Only either import your own car (which you need to prove owned the car for more than 3 years) or purchase 1 local assemble tax free.

Bit hard to own a 2017 car for 3 years already

Will just have to pay full price then

If you wanted to import your car from your home country, you must prove that you owned the car for more than 3 years.

If you want to purchase a local assemble car, you can enjoy the tax exemption within 2 years from the day you granted your MM2H visa.

I'm in UK and thinking of moving to Iskandar in a few years under MM2H. Disappointed they've changed the length of time you need to own a car in your home country in order to bring it in tax free. What would RM150,000 get you? Any links so I can see what kind of car that would get us? Many thanks!

No have. Check the Malaysia webpages of Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Keep in mind that not all models qualify. Some MM2Hers favourites are the Toyota Fortuner, the Nissan X-Trail and the Honda CRV and HRV for example.

The RM 150k is the amount of tax deduction, not the price of the car.
For example, a car selling price RM 300k, tax deduct 30% = 90K
a car selling price RM 600k, tax deduct 30% = 180K, the extra 30K tax need to pay by buyer.

Here's a list of approximate car prices in Malaysia https://www.carlist.my/new-car-deals

Toyota Fortuner RM187,000 Proton Perdana RM111,000 Honda Odyssey RM 229,000 Ford Everest RM200,000 KIA Sorento RM156,000 not sure if they all qualify, though.

And here's an article with a list of foreign models manufactured in Malaysia.

If you want to know the approximate MM2H tax free price for the eligible cars, just check the price for Langkawi on the respective dealers site.

Be aware though that that article is 4 years old and that the situation might have changed meanwhile.

Yes anyone investing in getting a major purchase like a car would certainly want to ask the dealership if the models were eligible and what the current price and taxes were. I just offered it as a guideline and am hoping someone might supply something that will be useful today, and for the next ten years in the future.

I presume the difference in the % of tax discount might be related to how much of the production occurs in Malaysia. I also note that some of the tax deductions almost reached 40% back in 2014. Those will likely be scaled down. I wonder if other tax benefits also will be reduced (e.g. a 27% reduction on the total price becomes only 20%)?

It may be worth noting that GST came into effect on 1 April 2015
The rate is 6%
Vehicles purchased or imported under the MM2H programme are NOT exempt from GST
