Minor Troll: Where would you live if....

You had the following requirements:

Any time zone between -4GMT and +6GMT.
Studio/1BR Rental properties available for at/under USD1000 a month.
High speed internet available for at/under USD100 a month.
Not Europe.
Employment not an issue.

And the following preferences (roughly in order):
Reasonable availability of 12 month or longer visas.
Safe for pets (a house cat).
Great beaches / as close to year-round swimming as possible.
Food, food, food.

I speak English, French, Spanish and am up for new languages.

Only a minor troll as I will probably do this.
Sitting here in Barcelona bored and wanting to live somewhere (in order)
1) nicer
2) either not more expensive or cheaper.

or stay in Spain and head for Cadiz (again sea a bit cold)

I was hoping to get out of Europe, but Morocco or Istanbul might be interesting.

While Turkey may not be expensive, I heard that rent-wise, Istanbul is actually a very expensive city. Check out a very interesting thread titled "Cost of Living" under Living in Istanbul at mymerhaba.com. Lots of good info. on that forum. Good luck!

Montevideo, Uruguay might fit your needs. Cheapish rent, beaches, high speed internet, beef predominates (but I'm sure you could find a good variety of food)...give it a look.

Uruguay is very high on my list actually. Does anyone know what immigration requirements are like? Ideally I'd like to do 6 months as a tourist. Then if I like it I'd like to do 6 months on a business visa exploring the potential to start a technology firm there. If that goes well I would then be interested in applying for soemthing more permanent, probably based around an investment and starting a business. Does anyone have any experience of this kind of route?
