BBC Radio Internet Broadcast Changes
I don't know if anyone has noticed, but the way BBC radio audio streams to the web has gone through a drastic change ... and not in a good way.
This manifests itself as a reduction in the quality of the audio and the commitment to a new system which will be virtually unique to the BBC leading to nearly all internet radio devices becoming obsolete overnight. As yet no manufacturers - bar one which is associated with the providers of the BBC's streaming service - produce a device which can reproduce the proposed new streams. Other manufacturers have already said it's unlikely they'll produce a device capable of receiving the new service. After all there are 20,000+ internet radio stations in the world using a common open source means of delivery. The On Demand/Listen Again facility has also summarily been withdrawn. If you want to know more please check out this BBC Blog, which is at the end of a series which elicited thousands of responses: BBC Blogs - INTERNET BLOG - Audio Factory: an overview If you want to do something about it please check out the petition: https://www.change.org/p/the-bbc-tru...adio-devices-2 Further discussion at: Reciva Refuge - the Internet Radio Forum - Index Thank you |
