As far as Ireland's immigration controls are concerned - this is irrelevant. Per the 1999 law, any British citizen is exempt from immigration control.

Unless you are suggesting that Irish law has changed since 1999?

It would be better to direct a question to the competent authorities inj Dublin, perhaps via a lawyer specialising in Immigration.
And what precisely should be asked to the "competent authorities"?

As for speaking to a lawyer, maybe, but it will only add value if the lawyer is capable of doing some original research and analysis on a situation he or she might not have seen before (with reference to the law, not whatever he or she thinks).
