PPS Number

Good Evening Guys,

Well my property purchase in Mayo is moving forward slowly. I have managed to open a bank account with Ulster bank in Mayo using my current UK address.

However, Ulster Bank want me to forward on to them my PPS number once I have that arranged. Additionally, my solicitor informs me that as I will initially reside outside the State, in order to have my Purchase Deed stamped, it is necessary for me to obtain a PPS Number.

I am confused as the Irish Revenue website clearly refers to a resident requiring a PPS number not a UK citizen.

Can anybody help to clear up my confusion?

Regards

TT

Re: PPS Number

PPS number is your tax number, your NI number equivalent.
Anyone who works there and accesses financial, health etc services requires one. You should ask an accountant about the options for you if you are not planning to live in the country. If you plan on renting it and getting income, you may require one as a landlord.

"I have managed to open a bank account with Ulster bank in Mayo using my current UK address."
It's not such a chore. It's perfectly legal and legit to have an account and not be resident, unlike in the UK.

Also legal in the UK (the fact that banks don't like it is another issue).

Do you need a PPSN to apply for an Irish Passport if your claim to Irish citizenship is through parents but have never lived in Ireland?
