FInding Rent in Co. Cork
 

Hello,
I'm in quite a predicament; I'm moving to Cork in December but I am having a lot of trouble trying to find accommodation.
I have applied to literally every ad on Daft.ie and i have had 0 replies i even phone the numbers and always go to voice mail.
Is there any other way i can find accommodation as this is getting quite stressful.

I recently located a facebook page for Westport, Ireland, as we are planning a trip there, and I wanted local recommendations for accommodations. I was flooded with messages, which included private landlords and airbnb owners.

I had a quick look for you re Cork, and there are loads of pages, too numerous to list. So best you go through them and find one that relates to your interests, and someone there might be able to give you some suggestions. Good luck!

Westport wouldn't have the job market Cork has and is of course a lot smaller. In Cork you are competing against students, tourists and have a huge job sector (IT). Apple employs 6000 people there and then you have various other big companies. By the time a property is listed on daft, it will be gone. Go to estate agents in person, wear your best shirt and smile. Treat it like a job interview and be prepared. Unfortunately that's how it is in most cities across Europe these days. Maybe smaller towns outside Cork would be an option.

The situation you're describing sounds similar to the experience I've had in Dublin more than a year ago. The one thing which was probably different is that I had viewings with 40 or 50 different interested parties and none seemed to have an influence in the decision making in their favour.

Ireland seems to be a place for US companies creating jobs, but there is no real credible housing option. Getting one of these jobs at one of these US companies is rather easy, but housing is clearly not.Even if relocation expenses are offered, which most US employers in Ireland do, the problem isn't solved. Most people live in shared housing in Dublin, shared often with total strangers. That wouldn't be my choice, hence I left Dublin.
