I am travelling to Edinburgh in Sept. A previous post got lots of very
helpfull replies. The Witchery was recommended but most of the awards
on their website are from years ago. Anybody eaten there recently and
what about the Tower?
Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard anything bad about the Witchery, but it's dead centre
in the tourist trap area, so whatever the food may be like, the ambience
won't be up to much. The Tower is only a few minutes' walk from it and
also gets consistently good reviews, but it advertises more discreetly
and gets more locals (also upmarket conference trade). Its location (on
top of the museum) will also help put off the white-limo hen-night crowd.
It's quite expensive.
I'd go for Sweet Melinda's or Howie's or Ann Purna or the Kalpna over
either of them.
