When I entered Canada by air from England with my luggage our luggage was
x-rayed. A really interesting process. They could easily do the same with
passengers.

For the same reason the Communist solders used to surround every plane
arriving from the West.

But it's worth the time and huge expense, because if they stop that less
than 1% coming into the country it will have a real effect on the streets.
The price will go up by less than 1%.

I read the "I thought they had some already?" meant that the US has them
already, which they do, of course.

health!!
And a HUGE invasion of privacy and bording on the scary "Big
Brother"side!

except that xrays for passengers poses a serious health risk and thus
require more than the whim of customs

My impression is that the biggest attraction of the Netherlands for young
people is drug availability.

Agreed, but when Customs is on a hunt for illicit things they use various means
to do their searching. When the trucks are x-rayed at the border I wonder if
Customs worries about the drivers (I don't know if the drivers are in the
vehicles when the x-ray is done). How about the health of those "illegal aliens'
who are caught on the "images" taken? I don't hear of anyone marching about with
placards claiming that these x-rays are bad for the health of the people caught
being smuggled into the country (the USA).
Yes, x-rays can be harmful. Ouch, what a blanket statement!
OTOH, there are low level ones that are quite useful. Think of all those people
who have benefitted from CAT scans, and all those who have died because there was
no CAT machine to detect the problem until it became terminal...

I believe that said X-rays are too far away from the people to cause harm - they are used
to show silhouettes/suspect objects, not small details of internal organs.
