Where to eat in Venice?

Can someone help me with suggestions about where to eat in Venice? I am looking for a couple different things:

1. I want to try cicchetti - I believe the name of these "bars" is osteria or baccaro. What are some good things to try there and can someone recomend a place?

2. I am also looking for restaurants. I want to keep the price to about 20 euros per person (correct me if I am wrong, but I think 20/person would be enough for a nice sit down dinner). I prefer to go where the locals go and avoid touristy places.

I don't care where in Venice they are located, but I would like to find at least one restaurant in Dosoduro, where our hotel is.

Thanks in advance!

20 Euro is on the low side, but it depends on how much you eat.
If you have a decent wine, it will push you well above that.

Here are two places in Dorsoduro I like:

Agli Alboretti
Ai Gondolieri

1. Dinner

In April 1999 I stayed in Dosoduro (and was quite pleased with
the location), and enjoyed my meals at the following. (But I can't
guarantee the price is within your range.)

La Furatola
Calle Lunga San Barnaba, 2870 Dorsoduro
Phone: 041-520-8594
seafood place

Al Profeta
Calle Lunga San Barnaba, Dorsoduro
Phone: 041-523 7466
had a lovely carpacchio here, and nice gnocchi

2. For coffee and/or a sandwich and some wine, I liked the little
place by the Accademia, right on the canal.

3. And then there's gelato; one of my favorite places was

Gelati Nico
Dorsoduro, 922-Zattere
30123 Venezia

In Dorsoduro I like:

Osteria ai Carmini - Dorsoduro 2894/a (Rio Teràdea scoazzera), tel.
041-5231115.
A true Venetian restaurant, perfect traditional meals, very near from Campo
Santa Margherita, rarely crowded.

Casin dei Nobili - Dorsoduro 2765, tel. 041-2411841 just behind Campo San
Barnaba.
Good atmosphere/prices. Due to its location, you can also find tourists
here, nevertheless it's nice. They also have good pizza.

In Cannaregio:

Da Bes - Tre Spiedi - Cannaregio 5906, Salizada S. Cancian (Rialto or Ca'
d'Oro vaporetto stops)
Phone: 041-5208035
This is a very Venetian place too. They usually don't accept bookings (this
also pertains to tradition), so you better be there around noon for the
lunch or around 7 PM for dinner. I use to go there and was always satisfied.
Perfect fish dishes (you can choose the fish they'll cook for you), risotti,
home kitchen and lots of humour. Very good wines too, warm atmosphere.

All these three are into the 20/person for a normal meal.

Talking about ice creams in Dorsoduro, you won't absolutely regret trying
the Campo Santa Margherita gelateria facing the supermarket.

Have fun,

Carlo
