Where do the cruise ships in Nuremberg dock for the Canal?
My husband is going to Nuremberg this weekend for work, and needs to
get from the Main Train Station to where the passenger ships dock on
the new Canal. In spite of my (I thought) superior Google skills, I
can't find where the heck that would be. Plenty of sites talk about
how wonderful the cruises are, and how a luxury bus will transport you
around, but no one gives an address that I can look up. No need for
the tourists to muddy their little heads with such nonsense, I
suspect. Any ideas short of calling over there? I'd wing it if I were
going, but he likes to know everything in advance.

Even with a profound knowledge of the German language this seems to be
impossible.

They don't know it anyway. I tried :-)

The pier for the cruise ships is in the port, not at Huegelstraße like
the "Neptun" excursion boats. It's a bit tricky to get there by public
transport, so I'd recommend to grab a cab at central station
(Hauptbahnhof).
The cab will usually take the highway (Frankenschnellweg) to exit
Nuernberg-Eibach. In the port, follow the signs "Personenschifffahrt"
(or "Personenschiffahrt", the reform of the German orthography hasn't
made it's way to all signs yet :-).
The website of Port of Nuremberg is at
http://www.bayernhafen.de/cms/index3...e3e/139/1078/-, the "how
to get there" maps are only on the German site, however.
http://www.bayernhafen.de/cms/images...91/anfahrt.pdf (147 kB)
gives you an overview,
http://www.bayernhafen.de/cms/images...fahrtsplan.pdf (1.3
MB) a more detailled map of the port (however not a good one).

The Main - Donau canal runs NW - SE through the SW suburbs of Nuremburg,
alongside the A73 autobahn (aka Sudwesttangente). The freight harbour (Hafen
Nürnberg) has a web site, but AFAIK that doesn't mention passenger traffic.
You can get a street map from www.mappy.de
For public transport, consult http://www.vgn.de/?language=en That indicates
only two points on the canal with convenient access: the freight harbour,
which can best be reached by taking S-Bahn line S3 from Nürnberg Hbf. to
Eiberg Bhf (=station), then bus route 67 eastbound to Rotterdamer Str. bus
stop (journey : about 20 mins including walking, departures every 15 mins
during business hours). The other point is a few minutes' walk from the
Röthenbach terminus of U-Bahn line 2.
