Default what does this mean?

Can somebody please help me out? What does "based on two sharing" mean?

(The context is : all prices are per person for a week in august, based on
two sharing)

thanks!

It usually refers to hotel rooms - twin or double rooms. The price is double
that quoted, whether or not the accommodation is for one or two people.

More generally it means that the price is double when two people are
involved. When any other number of people is concerned, the deal is
different but not pronounced. For instance a solo traveller may pay the same
as two travellers combined but not necessarily so.

If it says €50 per person per night, based on two sharing, it means
it's €100 per night for one room.

It means that a person travelling alone will not get that rate. That rate
is per-person rate only for individuals who will be sharing a double room.
A single traveller (someone not sharing the room with another person) would
probably pay significantly more.

It's when a rate "per person" is quoted. e.g. If the price per person is £50
based on two sharing, then the price for two people will be £100.
It doesn't say what happens if there is only one or more than two, but it
does imply that rate per person will be different in this case.

Hotels often do this to make their room rates sound cheaper.

But if there's only one of you , it doesn't necessarily mean that you will
pay 100. It's most likely be something like 60 or 70 instead.

Double occupancy. They are offering a rate per person based on two people
sharing the room.

From my experience, solos don't usually pay double the price. Typically,
they are charged a so-called "single supplement' which is way less than
double the price.

Single occupation of a room costs more per person.
