It went even higher, reaching a top of 35� today (95�F).

Writing as a European, travelling from Europe and staying on topic, I'd
like to know what's the weather usually like in Australia at the end of
April/first half of May? That's when I'm going.

And how different is the weather in Canberra and Sydney then? I've only
been in January before.

Australia is a huge country, it is impossible to say.
