Default On wearing my Kerry-Edwards campaign button?

I am coming next week.

Will I be treated better in France by
wearing my Kerry-Edwards campaign
button?

My friends say that while Bush is detested
in Europe Kerry is well thought of.

Why wear a button at all?

Nobody in Europe has ever heard of either of them. ;o)

Better wear a kilt or people might think you are an American

Just wear your smile. People will occassionally ask. My cab driver in
Copenhagen was particularly appalled that Bush even had a chance but was
otherwise quite plaeasant, still not ready to kill the messenger. But by
and large people will remember their parents admonition and not talk
religion or politics with strangers.

I suppose noone will notice your button, and
you will be treated equally well than any
other tourists.

It's a bit cold for that or did you mean a silly smile?

Your reception in France will largely depend on your own attitude towards the
residents of the Country you will be visiting.

General rule for all travelling: Don't mention religion or politics!

If you insist on wearing a campaign button, Ralph Nader would be a
better choice according to this.

It's much more likely that your hosts will bring up the topic of
politics with no prompting from you. My experience is that in many
European countries politics is treated almost as another sport.

A button will have nothing to do with it. You will be treated better in
France if you speak French, or at least try to speak it.

Why bring attention to the fact you are American at all? Behave
considerately and respectfully at all times, and chances are no one will
care.

If it concerns you, get a small Canadian flag lapel pin.

Wouldn't it be smarter to simply not volunteer your political views?
Although Europe has, of course, some interest in the ultimate outcome of
our presidential elections, I doubt that interest is of such
overwhelming urgency that they want a minute by minute assessment of our
electoral processes! (I don't plan to take my "Defend America, Defeat
Bush" T-shirt to Paris next month, either.)

I suspect the only effect a button touting either candidate will have is
to simply brand you as "American tourist". (Do Europeans indulge in our
obsession for slogan-bearing "buttons" for all occasions?)

Huh? You mean it ISN'T? ("Pro" wrestling leaps most promptly to mind.)
