UK and Ireland are not on the continent, but are clearly part of

They are at least reasonably adjacent to Europe. Instead of adjacent to
Asia as Cyprus is. As I said earlier Malta is a bit difficult since it
is pretty well centered between Europe & Africa.

The culture of both is European and not Asian. Malta is no further
from Italy than Cherbourg is from the IOW.

political and physical geography, (the questioner used the term
Europe, not EU).
The Canaries are in the EU politically and are islands associated
physically to Africa, if that helps.

Could you please give an URL? As far as I remember, Heligoland is
exempted from the European tax area but not from Schengen.

Could you please give an URL? As far as I remember, Heligoland is
exempted from the European tax area but not from Schengen.
