Default visa for spain

I hope to go to Spain for a short break with a Chinese friend who is
currently a student in the UK. He needs a visa but it seems that getting
this will take ages and be a lot of hassle, and we don't know for sure that
the visa would be here by the middle of December.

Are there any people out there with experience of applying for a visa
through the London Spanish Embassy? Is it possible that a French visa would
be quicker/easier to obtain? Is it legal to get the visa in France and then
get a bus to Spain?

My friends Chinese colleagues all recommend either getting a visa from
France and staying in France, or going to Switzerland instead, as no visa is
required.

Any advice welcome.

If your friend is a UK citizen, he needs no visa at all. If he is a chineese
citizen, I would suggest to phone to the London Spanish Embassy and the
French or Italian Embassies, just to know what they say....

A schengen visa is valid in all Schengen countries which include France,
Spain, Netherlands and a few others. Get your visa from the embassy of the
country which says they can process it quickest. Netherlands used to be the
quickest...
