Venice area trips
 

Going to the Lido di Jesilo near Venice for a week from the 16th May.

Apart from Venice, Dolomites, Lake Garda and Verona are there any places
worth a day trip.

Coach tours are fine as I'm not keen on driving in Italy.

Surely you don't plan to do more than three day trips in a week in
Venice? Do allow yourself some time to wander around Venice, getting
lost on the smaller streets.

I don't think you could see the Dolomites in a day trip; likewise it
would be difficult to see more than a quick glimpse of Lad Garda. You
can get to Verona on the train, and maybe it could be seen as a day
trip.

You don't mention what sorts of things interest you; if you like ancient
churches with amazingly splendid mosaics on their vaults, go to Ravenna.

No it wasn't that we were going to do all those trips. It's just places
we've already been to.

Planned to do Venice on 2 days and perhaps stay to the evening on one.

We love history and ruins but do prefer to go on planned excisions rather
than DIY unless its easy.

Not exactly your question, but I hope you have learned not to waste a bunch
of time going to Murano while you're in Venice.. Total rip-off.

I don't agree. I enjoyed the trip, had a nice lunch, took some nice
pictures and bought some nice glass. I plan to go back this March. By
the way, you can bargain with the glass factories..

I think at least to some extent it depends on how you go. The organized
tours generally take you to a glass factory, where you are urged to buy the
trashiest pieces at inflated prices, and then take you back to Venice. If
you go on your own, however, you are free to explore to beautiful island,
eat at the charming restaurants (and there are several), and shop for the
better quality of glass if that is what interests you. Having done it both
ways several times, I would never take a group tour to Murano again, but I
would enjoy going back on my own.

I don't agree. I wouldn't go to the glass factories, and I
wouldn't take an organized tour to get there (all of which take
you to the glass factories), but I like Murano.

I would recommend a drive to Arco and Trento. Not many American
tourists get to Trento, but it is worth seeing, and the vineyards in
Arco are fabulous. The view of the Castle on Lago Toblino is one of
the most picturesque sights I've ever seen. It's on the road fropm
Trento to Lake Garda. BTW, whenyou go to Lake Garda, I recommend
stopping at Limone and having lunch at the Palm Ristorante. Their
lake salmon is excellent and you can eat outside right on the lake
front.
