Venice?
What would be considered the "main" train station of Venice? I notice more
than one listed on the bahn.hafas site.

Venezia Santa Lucia is the station where trains for Venice terminates.
It's convenient just at Canal Grande and the Vaporetto boats.
Consider it as most convenient if you are staying in the classic Venice.
Venezia Mestre is on the main line and possibly most convenient for
connections unless you prefer to stay in the Mestre business area.
