Are you sure?
In German towns young people tend to cruise around in their slightly
customized Volkswagen Golfs, Opel Astras and Honda Civics, not to talk
about the motorbikes. Farmers love their overized tractors and garden
owners their various kinds of motorized tools.
The Morgenthau Plan has not been realized, FYI.

Maybe in the east, but in the south, tractors tend to be pre-war models.

Funnily enough, all agricultural high tech originates from the south:
http://www.fendt.com
http://www.deutz-fahr.de
http://www.johndeere.de (formerly known as Heinrich Lanz)
http://www.lindner-traktoren.at (Tyrol is currently not really German,
of course :-)

However, my all-time favorite is still the Porsche Diesel
(http://www.traktoren.org/bilder/porsche/junior.jpg). I used to own one
but I sold it one day :-(

Nice things, old tractors. That's like the Steyr 14/18. Bung a piece of
glowing paper into the cylinder to start it.

What I think of when you mention tractors cruising through German
towns is not the sight, but the smell of those tanks of foul smelling
liquid home brew fertilizer they would be pulling. Nothing like
getting caught following one of those long enough to totally fill your
car with the stench.

An old Lanz needs 10 to 20 minutes to preheat the "Glühnase" (glow
nose?) to starting temperature. A piece of paper might not be enough to
get masses of grey iron to heat :-)

They're trying hard to keep the nitrite pollution in our groundwater up.

According to my passport, I'm afraid I have to answer "yes".

Why afraid? It's something to be proud of.

All he did for it was *being born*. Not much to be proud of.

Why be proud of holding a certain passport or having a certain
nationality? Something that happened by fortune and without yourself
being involved is nothing to be proud of.
