Be very careful. A few people I know just got back and they said it
was awful. You are ignored in restaurants and people spit in your
direction. trips to eastern Eruope when the wall was up were more
relaxing.

If you have to go - tell them you are a Canadian. If they find out
you are an American then you are in big trouble. Don't wear anything
that looks American. Dressing in black clothes helps. Consider wearing
a beret too and smoke French cigarettes like Galousies. Consider
watching a few films by the French director Godard before going too.
If they corner you with a knife, you can discuss his films and it
could save your life.

If they find out you are an American - tell them you like the
Anti-American Dixie Chicks, tell them you hate Bush and you love
Chirac. They could have a knife.

What else would a cheese eating surrender monkey carry?

Ignore Johnny Hallyday's comments then.

That post is funny. I have to admit I didn't expect you to have such a
sense of humour.
My advice : just avoid any 'Kill sand nigers' or 'I hate french' T-shirt.
Remember that most french people hardly speak english. If you can't speak
french, do it in english, but slowly. In a restaurant, if you're having
fine food, consider good wine too rather than Coca-Cola.
Be nice, smile.
Now, if 'they' corner you with knife, stones, sticks, Godard video tape,
Evian bottles, whatever, use your brain, do what you would do in the same
situation in LA or New York.

Hmm that is pretty much how France has always treated Americans.

LOL.

Would a "I 'Heart' Chirac" t-shirt do the trick?

Enjoy your trip I'm sure it will be very pleasant.I live in Europe and
am not aware of any great anti-American sentiment. In choosing to
disagree with the war France has merely exercised its democratic
prerogative.

Advertisings in the metro for the latest production of Mr Murdoch
(Daredevil) have not been vandalised, drink dispensers are still full of
Coca-Cola cans, McDonald's are still open...

I am watching french TV, I am reading french newspapers, I've been to
demonstrations against the war in Paris and I don't have seen a single
slogan hostile to the American or British people.

Of course it's possible to meet lunatics but I think most people make the
difference between people and governments.

You could always pretend to be German. Germans are suddenly very popular
all
over Europe now, except in Denmark and England, but then that's pretty
normal.

Wear a green felt hat with a feather stuck on one side, and embroider
some
acorn leaf patterns on your green jacket. People will come up to you in
the street
and shake your hand, and invite you to a glass of red wine.
You can enjoy the bonhomie of a united Europe exchanging GW Bush jokes
with
the locals. When pressed for the latest German Bush joke, try this one:
Q: what is the difference between GWB and AH?
A: Adolf wrote a book.

Remember to say your th's all wrong, and no-one will know the better.
Have fun!

France: Ricin Traces Found in Paris Railway

_____News from France_____

Reuters
Thursday, March 20, 2003; 4:25 PM

PARIS (Reuters) - The French Interior Ministry said on Thursday that
traces of the deadly toxin ricin have been found in the Gare de Lyon
railway station in Paris.

A spokesman told Reuters that two small flasks containing traces of
the poison were discovered in a left luggage depot at the mainline
railway station which serves the south of France.

In January, British anti-terrorist police arrested several people in
connection with the alleged discovery of ricin in a tiny north London
flat.

Ricin, one of the deadliest naturally occurring poisons, is derived
from castor plant beans, which are grown worldwide to produce castor
oil.

The chemical, which is many times more deadly than cyanide, is
considered a likely bio-warfare agent and is on the Center for Disease
Control and Prevention's "B" list of agents -- considered a moderate
threat

That would be Bush, Jr. Bush Sr. you can like, given the fact that he
isn't any more impressed with his son than many of the rest of us...

I just got back from a trip to Paris a couple of weeks ago. My French
language skills are such that it is quite obvious that I am American.
Everyone--including the waiters--was very nice too me. J'aime bien
Paris!--Joe
