trains in spain
I will be in Spain for a few weeks this Easter/Holy Week, and plan to do all
my travelling by train.
My main stops are Barcelona-Seville (overnight train), Seville-Madrid,
Madrid-Valencia and Valencia-Barcelona, with some shorter distance trips in
between. I'm trying to figure out if it's better to buy the Spain Flexipass
or buy individual point-to-point tickets. Ideally I would like to purchase
everything before I leave due to the high season.
Looking forward to hearing your advice on what's cheaper and/or more
convenient.
Thanks.

By buying the pass you're still not going to get a seat or berth
reserved. So you'll have to pay extra for that either at the time you get
the pass or once you're in Spain

Hello Anna,
just check if the trains are not sold out, which might be the case for
Seville.

Re: trains in spain
If you go to the www.renfe.es website you can find details of all the
International reservations offices. It may be best, if you wish to make
reservations etc, well in advance, to contact your nearest Spanish rail
booking agent. Think the link for that page is:
http://www.renfe.es/ingles/viajes/puntos_venta.html
I just travelled from El Puerto de Santa Maria - which is near Jerez de la
Frontera, on the long distance TALGO train called EXTRAMADURA. It starts
from CADIZ at 08.00 hours, stops on the way and calls at SEVILLA at 09.35
and reaches MADRID at 1pm then eventually arrives in BARCELONA at 21.03.
I travelled Turist class which was fine all the way to MADRID (Atocha).
One thing I did was to keep my AVE high speed (expensive ticket from Madrid
to Sevilla - 64 Euros one way in Turist) for the return trip as you are
entitled to a 20% discount off the fare for that sector. So I would
recommend that you plan your rail journey so as to return on the same routes
if possible. Or at least part of the same routes as you can benefit from the
20% discount.
Hasta luego!
