If I can correctly read the Swiss railroad timetables, it appears
that there is a railroad station at the Zurich airport. -- True?

As Miss L Toe says, the station's right under the airport, it's Zurich
Flughafen station. Direct trains leave at 40 minutes past the hour for Thun
(via Bern), and take about 2 hours for the journey.

yes -- and let me suggest that anyone with a flight out of Zurich stay
in town and take the train out in the morning to the airport -- we
recently made the insane choice to stay at the 'airport' Novotel [which
is a great choice in Paris for a last night] and it was a nightmare --
horrible hotel in absolutely outback nowhere -- we didn't want to eat at
the hotel, their shuttle into town was 15 Francs -- we ended up walking
about 3 miles looking for a restaurant [everything in the area is closed
on weekends, it is an industrial park] we finally caught a train at an
outlying station into town, had dinner and then took the train back out
to the airport and the airport shuttle back to the hotel
it would have been soooooo much smarter to stay near the train station
which is within walking distance of most of the historic center -- and
then taken the very convenient and frequent running train to the airport
in the morning.
the Zurich city/airport train connection is one of the most convenient
we have seen [similar to Rome and to Paris -- but much closer -- the
trip is only about 10-15 minutes or so]

http://fahrplan.sbb.ch/bin/query.exe/en
From: Zurich Airport
To: Thun
Normal route is via Bern. A slower but more scenic route is via Lucerne and
the Brünigbahn (a narrow gauge partly cogwheel line).
http://www.bruenig.ch/
You'll connections via the Brünigbahn if you type in "Brienz" as a via
station.
Trains via Bern (partly direct) are CHF 56,- (single 2nd class). Via the
Brünigbahn CHF 58,-. Here you have to change at least in Lucerne and
Interlaken (obviously as Lucerne to Interlaken is narrow gauge).
