Default Train travel in Italy

Hiya there,

Me and and 4 other friends are going to Italy over summer and planning
to travel a lot ie. from venice to naples mmaking a couple of stops
along the way. I was wondering whether anyone knows about the
biglietoo chilometrico and whether it is good for this type of travel.
If not any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Satyen

You don't say how old you are. I've used a Carta Verde, which is valid
for one year, costs about 25 EUR and gives you a 20% discount on any
travel. Only for those under 26, though.

There are other options, of course. See: http://www.fs-on-line.com/.

It would have been great for this trip, but it's been discontinued. Your
best bet is to buy individual tickets as you go along. Train travel is
cheap in Italy, so it shouldn't cost you very much.

It wouldn't save you 25 Euro on a trip from Venice to Naples, even if
it's round trip. The one-way 2nd-class fare on the most expensive
service (Eurostar) is 54 Euro, savings less than 11 Euro if you have a
carta verde. On an IC train the fare is 45 Euro. Making stops along the
way doesn't increase the price as long as you stay on the same route.
However, you need to buy individual tickets for each leg unless you're
making very short stops.

Yes, you need to do some fair travelling. I used it for a
Florence-Sicily round trip and it paid off.
