Default Towers to climb on the continent

Hi,

I am travelling round the continent in September, visiting a few
cities.

Whenever I visit a city abroad I like to climb any kind of
observation/communication/church towers I can find (climb on the
inside that is, I'm not into free climbing or base jumping or anything
of that kind :-)), and take a photo or two from the top. A harmless
enough habit I'm sure you'll agree.

I've made a quick table below of the cities I'm visiting, showing the
towers I know about and whether or not they're open to the public. If
anyone could add any further towers (even comparatively short church
towers would be of interest), or help with the question marks, it'd be
much appreciated:

Yes, but I've never seen an obvious staircase.

I'm afraid not.
    > Funkturm Yes
Of course.

It's not the easiest site to navigate, but if you take a look at:

http://www.skyscrapers.com/re/en/

and run through the menus to the appropriate cities and building types,
you'll find a lot of info about observation decks, etc.

Possibly I'm into somewhat different towers -the ones I climbed were
medieval. Maybe not as high as a TV tower, but always the views are
spectacular, and at least as a 56yo non-athlete I could get up the
stairs (eventually) provided I ducked my head occasionally. Some of
the more memorable of the many I climbed on our recent odyssey were:
Prague, St Charles Bridge north tower;
Karlstein Castle;
Mycenae and also Argos Castle;
St Marks, Venice;
Heidelberg Cathedral;
Alhambra, Granada;
King John's Castle, Limerick;
The Princess Turret, Linlithgow;
Eiffel (not medieval and I took the lifts, but brilliant);
and the best of them all, Radicofani, which we had never heard of and
came across whilst wandering thru Tuscany. A glorious tower on top of
a small mountain with breath-taking views.

There is a staircase inside the famous 100 meter leaning tower in
Bologna. Don't remember the exact cost now, but it is only a few Euro.
498 steps.

You can also climb the Petrín Tower in Prague. Here is a picture I took from
the top:

The belltower in Sienna is pretty exciting. Only 110 meters but the last
three meters is an open wooden ladder surrounded by fresh air and
nothing to hold on to.

Hi again, thanks to everyone who replied... some very useful
information there - although I think my original email gave the wrong
impression - I will happily take a lift and avoid the stairs if at all
possible! I should have used the verb 'ascend' instead of 'climb'...

Still a couple of question marks on my list though... but if no-one
knows I'll post the answers myself when I get back from my holiday in
late September!

Cologne Cathedral http://www.koelner-dom.de/
You can climb on the south tower. EUR 2,- (students: EUR 1,-)
This was for a short time the highest building in the world. Another
highlight are some of the biggest free swinging bells on the planet you pass
on your way up.
The cathedral is directly next to the main railway station of Cologne.

Ulm Cathedral http://www.ulmer-muenster.de/info/info/turm.htm
A few meters higher 161,53 m (visitor platform at 140 m). 768 steps. EUR 3,-
(students: EUR 2,-)
If you've luck you can even see the Alps.

Main Tower in Frankfurt
http://www.maintower.de/angebote/e_angebote_ur_aus.cfm
Not the highest skyscraper in Frankfurt, but the onliest with a visitor
terrace (200 m)
EUR 4,50 (students: EUR 3,-)

You can also climb the "New" Town Hall tower. There is a viewing gallery at
the top.

The Eiffel tower of course and if you are already in Brussels take a quick
train ride to Brugge for Brugge Belfort, only 366 steps but a spectacular
view from the top.

Cologne Cathedral is very beautiful and the tower is *very* high for a stone
structure. I remember almost getting dizzy climbing the circular steps.
