Has anyone taken the fast Talgo200 train from Madrid to Malaga? How
long is the journey? Would I be able to get roundtrip 2nd class
tickets by booking two days in advance in April or May? Will it be
cheaper if I book 2 to 4 weeks in advance online? Is there another
alternative besides the Talgo200. For example, is there a slower but
cheaper overnight train which I can take from Madrid to Malaga? Much
obliged for any advice.

It is actually quite tight, specially if you plan to go around Easter
holidays. Better book in advance, if possible.

NO. Tickets cost the same regardless how many days before you book
them.

Talgo 2000 are not cheap (around 50 € one way) ; there is one daily
intercity train which is a bit cheaper (it leaves Madrid in the
afternoon and arrives around midnight) . check www.renfe.es for
timetables and fares. (english :
http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html)
There are buses as well, of course. Journey time is about 6 hours and
the price around 20 € one way.
Actually if booking in advance you should be able to find an online
plane deal for 60 or 80 € return .

How much is the return fare for Talgo200 from Madrid to Malaga if one
way is around 50€?
>there is one daily intercity train which is a bit cheaper (it leaves

I need to arrive in Malaga either in the morning or around noon time.
Is it possible for me to take a night train from Madrid at night and
arrive in Malaga in the morning? If yes, what are the various types of
seats on this night train?

I will be travelling from Madrid to Malaga on 30 April 04. Is this day
part of the Easter holidays. BTW, during the Easter holidays in Spain,
how many days are actual public holidays and when does the Easter
holiday begin and end?
Incidentally, I live in South-east Asia. If I book tickets online from
the Renfe website, will they send the tickets to me by post?

No, it's not part of Easter, but May 1 is a public holiday all over Spain,
so expect most of the businesses to be closed.

No. You'd have to pick them up at a RENFE ticket office at least one hour in
advance of the train departure.

You'll get a return fare deduction ; around 20 % , I think.

IIRC, the week starting april the 5th, so you're "safe".

NO: read the instructions that the website has about online bookings.
