There was a strike when I left Paris on May 19. I suppose going more than
two weeks without a "social action" was too much to ask.

So far they have been mainly one day stoppages at roughly weekly
intervals. Tuesday seems to be the most common day for these to happen.

These days, it is.
Many democratic countries effect social change by electing politicians
who reflect the will of the people. In France, politicians are elected
based on their family connections and social standing and which schools
they attended, and then, once they are in office, the French effect
social change by striking and demonstrating continually. It's not very
efficient, but it reminds the French of the stratified society, with
royalty and the aristocracy at the top, that they secretly miss so
dearly.
