Should I expect the Oslo (is that "S" for "South"?) train station to
have a place where I can store my luggage for a few (12) hours?

Oslo S (S for Sentralstasjon) has luggage lockers, the lockers are big
enough to hold a backpack. There are also some lockers in the adjacent
long-distance bus station.
