Default spain trip suggestions wanted

Planning a driving trip from Malaga to Murcia to Albacete to Ciudad Real
then south to Tavira (Portugal coast) and back around via Cadiz. We
actually hope to avoid all of those cities.

Instead we are looking for back, back roads that lead to small towns and
villages where we can get a cheap clean hostal. Along the way we hope to do
a fair bit of hiking, if there are trails nearby. If you are familiar with
any parts of this route and can offer suggestions, surely would like to hear
from you. We'd really like to avoid "touristy" places. We will be
travelling late March early April.

Please email your suggestions directly to:

Thanks

Joe

Avoid Cadiz? WHY!? It's a great place to spend a day or two - and definitely
not touristy. And go to Jerez
and Sanlucar while you're around that area too!

Get yourself a decent map, and just follow your nose. Finding yourself in
the back of nowhere shoulnd't be too difficult!

From Albacete, take the road to Ayna (60 kms) and then to Riopar
(another 50 kms or so), both small villages with some impressive
landscape.

Have a look at http://www.riopar.com/Fotos/fotos.htm

About cities, Cadiz is a must to visit... Malaga is also interesting
from my point of view.

About Murcia, can I suggest a trip to La Manga and the inner coast of
Mar Menor?

There are a lot, not difficult to find.

OK, good climate.

Thanks, I'll look into La Manga and Mar Menor, but we still have no interest
in cities.
Our inerest remains in the "natural spain" and with the time we have, we
have decided
to stay away from cities in general.

What an odd routing! Anyway, I would strongly recommend the area south and west
of Ronda for beautiful rural roads and trails -- Cadiz is pretty close, although
as I remember the area around Cadiz is nothing particularly great. You really
appear to be circling around, avoiding the area that would best fit your taste.
The coastline to each side of Gibralter is really beautiful, too, although it's
a fairly well-traveled area.

There are some really cool caves with prehistoric paintings near Benojoan (sp?)
just west of Ronda. You want a "back road"? This is as "back" as they come

I know someone who lives at Calabardina, next to Aguilas on the coast in
Murcia - right at the south end of the Murcia region. The next-best hotel in
Calabardina is very ok, and quite cheap [and even in Michelin!].

I drove "directly" from Cartagena via Mazaron to Aguilas on relatively back
roads, though plenty good enough. Some of the shortcut roads in that area
are questionable. It looked to me as though hiking would be quite possible
in that area.
