Default Sorry, I forgot to mention date

To those who have given their time to help me.
Thank you.
I'm actually surprised no one asked me 'when' I'll be in Europe. (I stupidly
forgot to mention it)
It's from the 3rd of Oct. 03 until 2nd Nov. 03
I would still love someone to help me out with the Greece part though.

The most interesting stuff I've read on Greece lately was in "Route 66 AD" a
newish book.

You said you want to visit the islands and Athens. That's easy enough.
Athens is an unavoidable stop-over anyway, so you might want to spread your
sightseeing between arrival and departure. The islands .. there are so many
Unless you have something specific in mind, just go with the flow. Take
the Metro to Piraeus on the night before you leave, compare departure times
posted on the ticket offices there, buy a ticket for the next day to
whatever island sounds fine to you. From there, island hopping till you've
had enough, and back to Piraeus for some more Athens sightseeing. If you
want recommendations about which islands, please tell us your preferences.

Hotel areas in Athens are the Plaka, and Omonia (Omonia tends to be
cheaper, higher scam risk though). On the islands, accomodation is plenty,
no need to worry about it at all.

Regards

I'm interested Judith,
Is this a history kind of a book?
Is it available in Australia?

"Route 66 AD"

Published in London, don't know why not. Hated the amart aleck attitude
towards modern folks, but very interesting re-tracing of the journeys
undertaken by Roman tourists.

From what I have gathered, you are starting from Switzerland, and have 3
weeks to see some of Europe, which must include Greece, yeah?

I would forget London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Berlin, and focus on the area
around Switzerland, Italy, and at least a week in Greece.

Perhaps travel via train down through Italy, and ferry across to Greece from
Bari. It doesn't really matter that much where you go in Italy because the
whole country has stuff worth seeing. You could lose yourself there!

Athens is generally regarded as a bit of a shithole, but the islands are
fantastic - and varied.

Avoid trying to do to much. Have every third or fourth day as a rest day
too. Your feet will probably be rather sore by the end of it! Also, as you
are travelling alone, you might want to stay in hostels from time to time to
meet other people. Don't be too put off by the fact that you are 40. The age
barrier disappears when the backpack goes on. Oh, and speaking of which, it
would not be a bad idea to lock up some of your work stuff while you are
travelling around. Having everything carried in one backpack will make the
trip much more enjoyable.
