Default Soros Bids Adieu to Russia, Says U.S. Needs Help

After 15 years and $1 billion in charity, international financier and
philanthropist George Soros bid an emotional farewell to Russia on
Thursday, saying it was time to focus his efforts on a nation more in
need of help -- America.

In other words, he got tired of living in a third world country. KM

George Soros has made money speculating on (or more often against) the
currency of economies where there has been glaring mismanagement,
usually followed by a period of political stubbornness and a failure
to address the core problem.

I have no idea why he is choosing to focus on the USA, but I am sure
he is not going to the US so he can claim welfare for his kids.

He for sure has been quite vocal on his intent to bet against the USD.

Sorry, a second world country. People have forgotten that the USA
and its allies constituted the first world, the Soviet Union and its allies
constituted the second world, and all of the rest, like Africa, constituted
the third world. There is a huge difference between Moscow and any
city in Africa.

Soros is so wealthy that he will live like a king no matter where he
lives. He is not leaving Russia for the reasons you hint at.

He's coming to the United States because he can make a lot more money and
because he's tired of living in a third world country where even
multi-millionaires have fewer accoutrements of luxurious living. A lot of
countries have larger welfare payments to individuals than does most of the
United States. KM

That's so you'll do the same and he'll make more $. He can afford to lose
vast sums of money in a gamble. If the U.S. Dollar remains low, exporting
manufacturers in the United States win, so, I'm sure he'll be buying stock in
those companies as well. KM

The kings of Russia (czars) never had it as good as the other kings in Europe
and in modern times they still lag woefully behind much of the west. Since
you're not in the highest bracket yourself, perhaps you're unaware of the
many things lacking in Russia to the super-rich. KM

Just went to Peterhof. You could have fooled me.

He'll make money in the end, and as usual the suckers will lose. At
least he isn't like the Enron, Woldcom and other crooks. He is upfront
and he does follow the rules.

But he will (actually already has) push the dolllar lower.

Stock needs to go up by more than the currency goes down.

And of course, people on a fixed income are the losers when the currency
goes down. It also feeds into inflation and the spiral tends to
self-perpetuate.

(Me, I have had no assets in USD in a while. And I just converted most of my
Euros into CAD. And no stock, looking at real estate and a new mortgage.)

It's not a moral stance, he just wants to make money. Greed is good,
remember?

The czars lived better than any European kings or queens.

Materially, perhaps. They for sure did not hesitate to show off the luxury
of their lifestyle.

OTOH they had to endure life in Russia.

He sure seemed to enjoy the power trip though.
