I will be making a journey from Lyon to Bruges in a few weeks by train. Has
anyone had any success in purchasing advanced tickets from the SNCF? I've
tried WWW.Voyageur-Sncf.com but am unable to obtain a price no matter how
hard I try.
Since part of the journey is via TGV which requires a reservation,
presumably it's best not to chance it and leave it until the day of travel.
Any advice welcome.
thanks

Forget websites; I tried them too, for hours, to no avail. I just asked a travel agency to
do it for me; in 10 minutes my tickets were booked, and that was done 6 weeks before the
trip.
SNCF seems to have a hand over the Thalys to Belgium. They probably want to sell us a
package train + hotel + car...

I would suggest that you visit first the SNCF site for the first leg
of your train trip Lyon to Paris and then go to raileurope.com for the
second leg of your trip from Paris (Gare du Nord) to Bruges. In
raileurope.com, go to the Train section and select Thalis (train's
name for this route). You should be able to buy your train ticket on
each of site. Pay online and pick it up at your train station.
If you keep having difficulty, contact the Raileurope staff in the US,
they are very friendly. I would strongly suggest that you buy your
tickets in advance considering that a lot of people are taking the
train at this time in the year.
Bon voyage!

The most convenient route from Lyon to Brugge does not go via Paris. There
are a couple of direct TGV's from the south of France to Brussles which go
around Paris.

If you travel by a direct TGV from Lyon to Brussels, you may be able to
book through:

Ok, I went between Paris and Lyon at the end of April. The best way is to
go to the SNCF english telephone number: 33.8.36.35.35.39 (outside France)
or 33.08.36.35.35.39 (inside). They will give you any info you need, book
tickets and mail them to you. For less than Raileurope. I had absolutely
no problem doing it this way and the cost of a phone call late at night is
low.

We Americans have been seeing a lot of TV adverts for 10-10-987
and I've been using it for domestic long distance. Works great,
$0.39 for the connection and $0.03/minute. Same rates for most of
Europe, including France! 24/7.
