Does anyone know an online source for slovenian currency, or failing that,
a foreign exchange bank who sells it over the counter?
Thanks.

http://rcum.uni-mb.si/local/bstecaj.txt gives you the latest rates.
Buying the currency outside of Slovenia is usually costly. Why would
you need to? You can get it easily when you get to Slovenia.
It brings up an interesting question: will Slovenia adopt the euro soon?

TPhey voted nearly 90% to join the EU earkier this week, so, I'd assume
that they will use the Euro as soon as possible after they are admitted.

Slovenia has ATM machines all over the country. This might be another
way of getting money. Happy traveling.

I was in Slovenia 18 months ago - we needed so little cash as everything is
so much cheaper than neighbouring Austria
Never bothered using an ATM - we just got 20UKP worth of Tolars from the
hotel desk if we were off out on the town. Usually enough for four of us to
have a meal and adequate local wine.
Credit cards are widely accepted as is the Euro/USD/UKP - most traders have
an electronic currency converter in their pocket. Rates may not be the
best, but who cares, prices were so cheap and the service friendly that I
do not begrudge them a little extra profit for the convenience.

The EU's Enlargement FAQ says:
According to the EU membership criteria, new members must be able to
demonstrate the "ability to take on the obligations of membership
including adherence to the aims of political, economic and monetary
union." The future members are thus expected to adopt the euro when
they are ready to do so, but not immediately upon accession.
The adoption of the common currency by a country, following accession,
demands the respect of detailed conditions. This involves three
stages:
* the current, pre-accession stage, during which the applicant
country must demonstrate irreversible progress towards a
functioning market economy and competitiveness as well as
sustainable macroeconomic stability;
* an intermediary phase between accession and the adoption of the
euro, in which the new member participates fully in the Single
Market, demonstrates progress towards achieving the conditions
necessary to adopt the euro, including participation in the
exchange-rate mechanism;
* participation in the euro area, provided the new member fulfils
all the criteria that apply to current members for the adoption
of the single currency (a budget deficit of less than 3 % of
GDP, a debt ratio of less than 60 % of GDP, low inflation and
interest rates close to the EU average).
So far, several of the applicant countries have made good progress
towards these goals, at the same time strengthening their economic
reforms.
