On your route from Monreale to Erice, stop at Segesta.

I am exhausted and I didn't even take the trip. jet recovery alone takes
minimum one throw away day. A new hotel each night further wears n the
body. Palermo might not excite you but give it two nights. You will spend
day one getting there and trying to adjust. Day two you might see the city.
Day three ready to go.

But we see this a lot. Go enjoy and then take a week of to recover. I could
spend more time in Taormina just soaking in the beauty.

Thanks for the reply "jcoulter".
That's exactly what we're looking for (...is it too aggressive?)

Who knows, we may fall in love halfway through, or get exhausted, and
end up spending the rest of our time in one of the lovely hilltowns.

Looks good. I did almost the same circuit, but in 12 days. I also
took more time along the way than you will be able to. But if you
press yourself and aren't the kind of person you really really visits
the heck out of a place (e.g., I spent ALL DAY at the temples in
Agrigento), then you'll do fine. You will probably face a challenge
regarding the reduced daylight hours, so I recommend booking ahead,
even well ahead, so you don't have to poke around at night looking for
a place.

Say, check out my Sicily photos, you might like them:

I agree with jc. If you arrive on Sunday morning, don't plan anything for
Sunday, except for dinner Sunday night. We typically shower/sleep as soon
as we get in from a flight like that. It isn't always the best thing to do
in terms of adjusting to the time difference, but it feels good! :)

Generally speaking, if there is anything you *must* see that has limited
hours, try to spend 1.5 days at each location. 1/2 day for
logisitics(getting there and leaving), one full day for attractions.
Usually, just getting up, eating breakfast, packing/loading the rent-a-car,
getting gas, travelling to the next city is going to take longer than you
think. You don't want to be too tired from the logisitics to WANT to see an
attraction..... then you'll either force yourself to go (and not be happy)
or end up missing out.

If you have to error on one side, I'd probably pick the slower one.

Etna is really well worth a look! There's an eruption going on at the
moment in the Valle del Bove which is possible to get quite close to
with a local guide.

Course by December the summit area will be well snowed up, so not sure
what access to Bove will be like. You can get up from Sapienza on the
cable car.

Pictures of a trip I did in early October including a walk from North
to South over Etna are at

Have a great trip!

Advice: You're way over-scheduled. You could drive the route in 6 days
OR see something of Sicily - but you don't have nearly enough time for
what you have planned. Skip half the places.

My recommendation: Monreale, Segesta, Siracusa (any relatives there?),
Etna, Taormina, then back to Palermo, stopping to see the cathedral in
Cefalu if you have time. Skip Erice, Selinute, Villa Romana; not that
they aren't great, but because you haven't the time.
