Hi, I am wondering if anybody can give me some good places to shop in
Milan and Paris, particular interested in fashion, arty stuff,
interior decoration.
What are the good places to find designer clothes but with discount
prices? such as designer outlet?
I am also very interested in contemporary furniture, can somebody tell
you some of the stores and showroom I should visit? Is it possible to
buy furniture in Italy and ship it back to US, if not, I will just
certain enjoy looking at them..
Also, any tips on shipping goods to home?

Bring lots of money. With the new euro-dollar exchange rates, the
prices are mind boggling.
It has been my experience that there are no discounts in Paris or
Milan. Discounts are in the boondocks. Even Cannes.

In Paris, go to the shopping districts of Galleries Lafayette
on HAUSSMANN.
In Milan, great shopping can be done in the Piazza Duomo square.
There are many shops there.

you are so anxious to do a knee jerk anti American bit that you misread
the statement -- which obviously refers to euro to dollar exchange rates

Why, isn't your brilliant economy going stronger every day ??
And jerks to rename the Euro are everywhere, too... I bet you did it.

I was told about a place in Milan that amounts to what Americans would call an "outlet mall"
--- where many of the designer names have heavily discounted merchandise for sale.
Anyone know about this? What is it called? Location etc?
Thanks,
djb

There is Serravalle Outlet..Serravalle Scrivia... but it is outside Milan.
I don't know how to get there on public transportation. It is between Milan
and Genoa. I am sure someone at your hotel or the tourist office can help
you. For shoes there is Fox Town Factory Stores but it is in Mendrisio,
Switzerland...but it only 45 minutes from Milan...well worth the trip if you
want good shoes at good prices.
Hope this helps and Buone spese!

True, there are many shops there but the "real" shopping is on via
Montenapoleone and via Spiga. Corso di Porta Ticinese is interesting and
for mid-price go to Corso Buenos Aires, via Torino, Porta Vittoria...these
are the places the "Milanesi" shop in. Also, via Solferino and via Fiori
Chiari are interesting "old fashioned" shopping streets.
