Suggestions please! A group of us want to do a self-guided late June
hike/walk several days in the Dolomites. Some are serious hikers
(recently Grand Canyon rim-to-rim) but others only light walking. None
of us have any mountaineering experience. Some want high quality
accommodation at night so no huts/refuges/backpacking. One scenario we
thought is to base at a high-quality hotel and those who wish take
extended day hikes? Another is hike hotel-to-hotel but have luggage
transfer (and those who don't want to hike can ride along)? Or rent a
van (someone has to drive each day)?
Recommendations please...
Route(s) town(s) best to hike to/through or base in?
Reasonably-priced (less expensive than a taxi!) luggage transfer
services?
Sources for relatively idiot-proof trail maps?
"Gotchas" we forgot?
All ideas gratefully accepted; and thanks!

I can't give you recommendations on multi day hikes, but I stayed in Cortina
d'Ampezzo for a week earlier this year and it was a decent base for day
walks (particularly if you're after a "high-quality hotel" - there are
plenty of those!). I would recommend the Tabacco 1:25000 maps - you can get
them from Stanfords in the UK
(http://www.stanfords.co.uk/seriesdet...?series_id=380) - if
you're American, Google lists some sources.
If you're interested in history you might want to look at the First World
War remains (e.g. Monte Lagazuoi and Tre Sassi Fort)
The Dolomites are lovely - I highly recommend them.
