Plenty of interesting places.
Key question: are you mobile? Car or train? (They have some sort of a
train pass BTW.)

Get the early (around 6.40) train to Kyle of Lochalsh from Edinburgh via
Inverness. It is a beautiful journey. From Kyle you could take a trip over
the bridge by bus to the Isle of Skye. Another good place to visit is
Plockton which is before Kyle but the station is about a mile from the
village.

The Highland Boundary Fault, the geological divide between the Highlands and
Lowlands, runs through Central Scotland between Loch Lomond and Dunkeld, and
this area is within day trip travelling distance of Edinburgh. The Trossachs
have been described as the Highlands in miniature, now taken as stretching
from Callander in the East to the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park in the west,
right up to the eastern banks of Loch Lomond. Callander is the home of Rob
Roy, 17thC outlaw who led the Clan MacGregor, and the Trossachs were
popularised by Sir Walter Scott, who set Lady of the Lake and Rob Roy in the
area.
Ben Venue and Ben A'an, on the sourthern shores of Loch Katrine, and Ben
Ledi, NW of Callander, are popular walking and climbing areas. There are
also gentler walks from the QE Forest Park north of Aberfoyle. The Trossachs
Trundler bus *may* still be running next week (Mon-Fri & Sun), a vintage bus
which takes a circulr route linking Callander, Loch Katrine and Aberfoyle,
with various stops and timed to connect with sailings of the SS Stir Walter
Scott on Loch Katrine.
