Schengen Visa Single Entry question
 

Hi,

I have spent a lot of time on the web and groups trying to find an
answer to this. Also, the opinions of the Danish consulates and the
travel agents differ (dunno why). So pls help me with this.

Please let me know if the following travel plan is valid with
- Schengen Visa (Business)
- for an Indian citizen
- with Single-Entry visa

Travel Plan: Mumbai - Copenhagen - Madrid - Copenhagen - Mumbai.

Mumbai - Copenhagen: 3rd September
Copenhagen - Madrid: 11 September
Madrid - Copenhagen: 12 September
Copenhagen - Mumbai: 25 September

I dont see why it should be. Both Madrid and
Copenhagen are in the Schengen area. I presume
you are planning to fly direct from Copenhagen
to Madrid.

If you were to travel via a non Schengen country
such as the UK that could be a problem

Assuming you've a normal visa for Denmark, not indicating any restrictions
(such as "valid for Denmark only" or so ) this trip is feasible.
In fact there's no such thing as a Schengen-visa , the visas is issued by
the individual countries in the Schengen region but normally the validity is
extended to all other countries in the Schengen area. Normally you're
advised to apply for a visa in the country where you're supposed to spend
most of the time but that could be seen as a recommendation only. You're
perfectly right with a visa for Denmark.
Single entry means you can't do side trips outside Schengen ,for example not
Switzerland nor U.K

Airlines won't allow you to check in without a valid visa, if needed,
for the destination country.

This is OK if
- the visa is valid for "Schengen countries" (check the visa) or specifies
that it is valid for both Denmark and Spain;
and
- you fly from Copenhagen to Madrid non-stop or via another Schengen
country.

Bull. Norway and Iceland ARE Schengen countries while the UK is not.

UK is not Schengen, the other three aren't even members of the EU.

Perhaps you are confusing EU and Schengen?
I don't believe that the UK is in Schengen. It is, though, in the EU.

But Norway and Iceland *are* Schengen countries and Switzerland is expected
to join Schengen within the next two years or so.

The 15 Schengen countries are: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland,
France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands,
Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. All these countries except Norway
and Iceland are European Union members.

Thanks a lot guys. We are pretty much on the same lines.

Do we have access to some concrete documentation/references/links that
can explicitly support this? I have tried to scan links on the
Schengen treaty,explanation of the visa form, etc., but all futile.
http://www.eurovisa.info looked the master site but no info on
single/multiple entries there.

For people having a confusion about UK/Norway/Switzerland, you will
find some good info on EuroVisa.info.
