Default Rome Trip Questions

Hi all,

Just a couple of questions maybe someone can help me with.

I will be flying to Rome this week with Ryan Air. How much should I expect
to pay a taxi for a transfer to the city centre?

Is there anything I should be aware off whilst being a tourist in Rome?

Does anybody have any recommendations and tips of what to see in my two day
stay.

Regards

Andy

Nothing, for it's foolish to take a taxi when the train is so much cheaper
and as quick, maybe quicker.

That it's big city, but that much to lok at is in a small walkable/bussable
area.

Lots. Get a guide book. Start early. Don't quit at twilight.

What time will you be arriving in Rome? Odds are, you'll be better off
taking the train into Rome. Its very convenient and inexpensive.

As for tips; make sure you have nothing of value in your pockets and do
not walk around with a backpack or duffle bag that can be opened easily.
Pickpocks are a major problem in many Italian cities, including Rome.

As for what to see in Rome; depends entirely on your interests. If you
do a web search, you'll find tons of info.

Around 45-50 Euro. You can take the train, but then you'll
probably have to take a taxi from the train station in town to
your hotel, so if you're a couple of people the taxi from the
airport will only cost you an extra 15 Euro or so.

Especially since you have so little time in Rome, I recommend
trying to maximize your time there, and not waste time by
economizing and taking the train.

I don't know how to answer such a general question. Can you be
more specific about what your concerns are?

Two days is barely enough to see just a few of the major sites.
With such a small amount of time, you're going to have to pick
and choose what *you* find most interesting; other people's
opinions don't count.

You should buy a good guidebook, and read it. Then choose what
you want to do.

That would be from the Ciampino Airport correct?
Sorry never used that one but here is their website in case you want to
try public transport into the city www.adr.it/content.asp?L=3&IdMen=204
Have used this car/driver service which is very good
www.limoservicerome.com and on par with taxi rates from FCO airport.

Pickpockets love tourists. A very safe city I wouldn't be concerned
except for the typical tourist overcharges in tourist infested areas.

Tough one there are so many. Try www.twenj.com for some info on sites
and museums.
Buy a Palatine Hill ticket it is also valid for the Colosseum (same
day) and avoid the long Colosseum queues.

Good point! In my answer I had assumed (perhaps mistakenly) that
it was Leonardo da Vinci. If it's Ciampino, Andy should ignore my
response. I know nothing about transportation from there.

Also be aware that pickpockets often work in gangs - often gangs of
children - and that a large male does NOT intimidate 10-year-old pickpockets.
Underestimate them and you're easy prey.

As others have said, Ryanair flies to Ciampino, not Da Vinci/Fumincio
(sp?). Not sure on the taxi, but they run a bus for (IIRC) EUR
8/person direct to termini. (We then walked to our hotel off Via
Nazionale from there.) We tried to take the public bus/metro route,
but couldn't get the ticket machine to work and the snack bars were
closed/didn't have tickets.

Enjoy your trip,
Paul

Hi Andy,
We are going to Rome in April, to Fiumicino airport, and have been warned
about the taxis..
Some of the drivers have been prosecuted lately, because they were charging
200 Euros to go from the airport to the centre of Rome....when the real fare
is only 30 to 50 Euros.
Only take a yellow or white taxi with an identification number, and a meter
inside, and go to a taxi rank only, at the airport.

I would ask the price first, before getting in.

Additional charges after 10pm and on Sunday..and each piece of luggage.

Use a money bag round your waist..or inside pocket.
Have a great trip,
Judy

There's a taxi line. These are the regular taxi lines / driver. Ask for
the fare. There are hustler drivers that try to intercept you after
arrival. They're usually more expensive.

There's a train that runs between Fiumicino and Termini (both ways).
Used it last Friday. Fare is 9.50 E...runs every half hour; starts
about 7am, runs into early evening I think. Took less than 30
mins...less time than driving/taxi or bus would be
