Rome Hotels
I am looking for a hotel in Rome, or near Rome that is on a bus line
or even better the Metro system. for about 80 a night for 2 beds..
for 2 people.
I don't care about a bathroom, I can share a hall one.
I rather not do a hostel, but if I must, that is a last resort.

La Lunetta, near the Campo dei Fiori, is in this price range. It's in a
very convenient location, near several bus lines and the Largo Argentina
bus terminus. Even better, it's within easy walking distance of most of
Rome's major sights. It's my preferred place to stay when I'm in Rome.
Phone: +39/06-686-1080
Fax: +39/06-689-2028
It's a small family-run hotel, on a quiet square. There are rooms with
and without bath. No elevator, no air-conditioning. Breakfast is not
included in the price, but there are plenty of inexpensive places nearby
to get breakfast.

I stayed at Pensione Paradise recently - Vatican area, next to a Metro stop
(literally). I'd stay there again when back in Rome.

Re: Rome Hotels
Try the Hotel Scott House on Via Gioberti - 1 1/2 blocks from Temini
Station. Great little place and breakfast is included.

However, the Vatican is not a particularly convenient area, metro or no
metro. It's off to the west of the city and there aren't many good
restaurants there. Rome is a very walkable city, and it really is an
advantage to stay right in the thick of things.

There is a hotel called Hotel des Artistes (www.hoteldesartistes) that has
both private en suite rooms and what they call hostel room, ie rooms with no
baths. We stayed in both about a year ago. The hotel is not too far from the
train station and about a half block from a metro stop and 3-4 block of , if
my memory serves me, Piazza Republica, where one can catch the bus line that
runs to the Vatican. They have a few amentites such as ISP but there are
others nearby. It is about 3 block from a laundromat that also has internet
access. There are more convienent places in Rome to stay but this place was
legitimate and run by good folks.

It depends what you want I guess. I was only in there from late evening to
early morning on any day and it was a chrap and decent decent place to
sleep.
