Rome and Florence
 

Would appreciate any suggestions of moderately priced accomodations in
either Rome or Florence. I've never been there but am going during
Thanksgiving.

you will find all type of special offers and prices.

a decent price would be about 70.00 eur day per room per night with european
breakfast.

The problem is that everyone has a different definition of
"moderately priced." Tell us yours, and you'll probably get lots
of decent recommendations.

In my experience, 2-star places are what you may want... en-suite at
least, and usually speaks to a basic cleanliness.

1-star are usually too dirty and no bathroom, and 3-stars are 2-stars
with a mini-bar and guarranteed a TV.

Not all 2-star places are 100% en-suite.

Also try the Fodors' Forum www.fodors.com/forums
Any recommendations you get either here, there or elsewhere use their
'Search' box to bring-up past posts on the hotels like for the Hotel
Smith say, try smith AND hotel AND rome click-on 'Italy' and 'Find'.
Also as others mentioned: Price range, single or double and what you
require like ensuite (private bathroom), TV, elevator, breakfast, etc.
Location though will be a compromise of what you want and are willing
to pay for.
Myself for example: I stay at 3*-type hotels because I want ensuite,
elevator, tv and a decent buffet breakfast. But I am not willing to pay
the 3* price of a romantic centrally located hotel. So I stay near the
Termini train station and take a short bus or metro ride to the sights.
If that option interests you the Hotel Kennedy is a nice 3* hotel that I
have used on my last 3 visits. www.hotelkennedy.net
Also remember you will be there in the off-peak season but most of the
info you will get from other posters will usually be peak or shoulder
season higher prices.

We just got back from Rome and Florence. In Rome we rented an apartment
for five days. It worked out really well. It was near the Termini train
station and had easy Metro access. The website we rented from was:

We didn't have the minimum number of nights to get an apartment in
Florence. We stayed at the Best Western Select Firenze hotel. It was
located in a good neighborhood, and there was easy bus access to
sightseeing in Florence.

We just came back from a week in Rome, where we stayed at the
moderately priced, 3-star, Hotel Archemede. It's very clean,
elevators, hot water, TV (though not satelite), breakfast buffet
included (continental breakfast, nothing to get excited about, but
acceptable). It's also nice and centrally located, very close to
termini station.

I too would like to know of reasonable priced hotels in not only Rome
but other popular cities as well. I have found that sence the change
oto the Euro. Prices have gone up quite a bit. the last time I went to
Rome about two years ago, I paid 100 Euro for a double which was a 3
star hotle and not much more above the rating of a cracker box. And
Pisa wasn't much different. I live in Germany and traveling around
here one can find very nice accomadations reasonably priced.

So to get back to the origanal Question What is moderately Priced??
Please give a figure. To some it could be 200 Euro and others 75 Euro.

I don't know that hotel at all, but I wouldn't call
anythingcvlose to Stazione Termini "centrally located." To me,
being centrally located located is the most important
characteristic of a hotel, and for that reason, I'd personally
rule out anything close to Termini, no matter how good and how
reasonable the price.
