Default Rome - Fiumicino to Piazza Borghese on a Sunday

First time visitor to Rome. We are arrving in Rome on a Sunday on a
flight from Germany, and want to get to a hotel near the Piazza Borghese
(Ponte Cavour). Would rather take a train and taxi from the station
than the expensive taxi ride from Fiumicino. I understand the train to
Travestere runs only hourly on Sunday. Can't find any official
references to the Sunday schedule of the Leonardo train to Termini (only
hints that it does not have the same schedule) - Would it also run only
hourly on a Sunday? Since both Termini and Travestere seem about the
same distance from the hotel, can I assume that a taxi ride from each
would cost about the same? (Have also read that there is quite a long
walk at Termini from the train platform to the taxi stand). Would there
be any difficulty finding a taxi at Stazione Travestere on a Sunday
(around 1:00 in the aftternoon)? Have also read about a minivan (what
we call in the states a "shuttle") available at Fiumincino - Can anyone
tell me an approximate cost for that, and whether to expect the trip to
take hours, dropping off several others? Any help will be most
appreciated.

Yes it is a long walk ~600+m (Termini) but if you go down the stairs
_right_ at these tracks (26-29) there are usually a few *official* taxis
waiting outside.
The shuttles are =8010.50 (I don't know if there is a Sunday surcharge)
and I recall they run every 30min. They are small (8? passengers) so the
drop-offs are quick. But say it leaves at 0900 and you get your tickets
at 0831 but the 0900 is booked and you leave at 0930, you've lost an
hour right off the bat. Which has happened to me, the queue, missing the
next shuttle due to space and the drop-offs (I was last) was ~2hrs.
A recent thread about taxis put the price at ~=8050, the same as a
Sunday (with surcharge) limo & driver www.limoservicerome.com Regards,
Walter

Greetings Tom

Please take all this with a healthy dose of skepticism, as I am working
with information gathered from several sources and from my own experience
and put together in my own way, but here goes:

I have heard that there are more trains and faster ones to Termini than the
other station. So I am taking the train to Termini, once again.

Termini is a huge rail station and busy every day of the week. There are
(or is one) side doors, like the one mentioned down the steps between
platforms 26 and 29 that lead you to a taxi stand with real taxis. By
asking for a taxi as we walked away from our arrival platform, we were
directed to this much more convenient side door.

I wouldn't bother with a shuttle, because like the other poster, I have
found the shuttle service at Termini to be not what I had hoped. The train
is easiest, I believe.

So if I were you, I would take the trian to Termini, find the side door,
and taxi to my hotel.
Anyway, that is my plan for a week and a half from today.
Buon Viaggio,
Debbie

Brahmama is an unknown quantity at this point
Default consider taxi to hotel

My friend (who lives in Rome) has arranged a car to pick us up at the Airport and deliver us to our hotel - in an off-the-beaten-path location. He said that this car service would be no more expensive than taking the train to Termini and then a taxi on to the hotel. I believe the price for this is 37 Euros.

Even if that is a bit more expensive than the train/taxi route, do consider the long way to walk with your luggage to and from the train. I am not familiar with the Termini station, but I have read that it is a long way to the exit.

We don't want to take chances anymore with hauling bags up and down staircases - a couple of years ago in London, we walked for miles up and down interminable staircases - it gave hell a new meaning for me!

Of course, we are old and not so strong anymore, and that may not be a problem for you. And maybe there aren't any stairs at Termini. But also think of your long flight and how anxious you will be to get settled in!

anyway, best of luck for a great stay. We are leaving in 17 days and can't wait.

If you are at least three people, then he's right. If you are two
people, then the train is cheaper. However, 37 Euros is not a big price.
The regular taxis cost more, I think around 45 Euros and there are
extras for excess luggage, late hours, extra passengers etc., which can
bring it over 50 euros.

However, there is a side door near the airport train where you can get a
taxi.

There are no stairs at Termini, at least between the trains and the main
exit. I can't remember if there is a flight of stairs at the side exit.
