If its reopened ( closed last September for refit) then "La Carreta" in
Chueca its an Argentinian steak house, gets packed out from about 10pm.

There are several good restaurants in Cheuca, just wander around and look
at the menus.

If you want cabaret , a good laugh and ( excellent) buffet style food. then
try "GulaGula" in Grand Via.

Is this one on the left as you head down towards the main road? Up a few
steps to go in then the dining rooms are to your right.?

Just hoping it is the same one 'cos I'd like to go back there next visit.
(We were told it was the best Paella restaurant in Madrid ) BTW they don't
just do paella, excellent fish and lamb too.

I've been visiting Spain regularly since 1956, I can honestly say that the
worst Paella I've ever had i n Spainwas in a restaurant in the Gran Via,
Madrid. I can't remember the name, it was such a long time ago. pero, it was
the greasiest, sloppiest, tasteless(t) so called paella I've ever had. But
there we are, if you eat in the tourist ghettos what do you expect?
Cheers
Tom
