Trainspotting definitely captured the spirit of the Scots infamous
'self destructive streak'. To live in Scotland, you've gotta be
'hard'. Apparently some parts of Glasgow have incredibly low life
expectances for males, like 45 years or something. Anyone know for
sure?

Sounds astonishing, that's lower than India (57y)
But for a small area entirely populated by addicts that's maybe possibly.

Hi,

well I've played with viagra (1/4 tablet) and cialis (also a 1/4 tablet)
and found them both... interesting :-}

viagra seems to make rounds 3-6 that night more doable, with a round or
two in the morning definitely possible.... but after that it starts to
wear off and you're back to "normal" (aka "average").

and well cialis lasts 36+ hours and other that vacations or weekends
away from the kids we just don't have that much time "free"... though I
might take a couple of tabs with us on vacation... if we get rained in
for a couple of days... well we'll find something to do ;-}

Not quite that bad.

Lowest male life expectancy:
Glasgow - 68.7
Manchester - 69.8
Inverclyde - 70.3
West Dunbartonshire - 70.8
Renfrewshire - 71.7
Dundee - 71.8
North Lanarkshire - 71.8
Blackpool - 72
Liverpool - 72
Western Isles - 72.3

Lowest female life expectancy:
Glasgow - 76.2
Manchester - 76.5
East Ayrshire - 76.7
West Dunbartonshire - 77.2
Inverclyde - 77.2
Liverpool - 77.3
North Lanarkshire - 77.5
Wansbeck - 77.6
Merthyr Tydfil - 77.6
Renfrewshire - 77.7

above from
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3172229.stm

Within Glasgow:

The life expectancy figures for Glasgow Shettleston are far worse than the
Scottish National average. The male life expectancy in Glasgow Shettleston
is only 63.9 years, which is almost a decade below the Scottish average and
is on a par with third world countries.

More than three-quarters of Scotland's most deprived areas are in Glasgow,
according to new figures. The statistics published by the Scottish Executive
said that 16 council wards within the city featured in the 20 worst areas.
Glasgow is also home to the three wards which come out worst on the list -
Keppochhill, Drumry and Parkhead.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/2804895.stm

A local GP, Dr Gerry Spence, for example, comments:
"A lot of people are on benefits, living from week to week, relying on
convenience foods and eating out of the chippy.
http://www.sirc.org/articles/poverty_and_obesity.shtml

However, the north of England also scored poorly with Liverpool and Wansbeck
in Northumberland joining Manchester at the lower end of the scale. Merthyr
Tydfil was the only candidate in the bottom 10 from Wales.
In general, the statistics suggest that people living in the South-west of
England seem to stand the best chance of living longer. Of the 10
authorities with the top life expectancies, four were in Dorset, one in
Somerset and one in Devon. Parts of Surrey, Norfolk, and Kensington and
Chelsea also fared well.
The authority with the highest life expectancy for men is North Dorset at
79.3 years and for women West Somerset with 83.4 years.
