Default Radisson SAS, Riga, Latvia

Has anyone stayed in this hotel?

It claims to have a world class fitness centre but I have seem these
claims before in hotel brochures and when you get there the gym is
crap!

How big is the swimming pool, and how big is the gym?

Thanks

Hello,

I haven't stayed at that hotel, but you should be aware that if you go
to Riga for pleasure it is located on the "wrong" side of the river. I
have heard good things about the hotel, though.

I've stayed at the hotel but did not check out the pool or the gym. The
hotel is spacious, immaculately clean, and well equipped, so I would
assume that this holds for those facilitites as well.

The hotel is on the far side of the river, but it takes less than ten
minutes to walk across the bridge or, alternatively, you can use one of
the frequent and inexpensive tram lines to reach the city centrer, which
starts at the other end of the bridge.

Resist the temptation to enjoy the overpriced treats in your room's
minibar and purchase the same stuff for about half the price at the nearby
grocery store.

Enjoy your trip to Riga, one of the relatively undiscovered pearls of
north-eastern Europe.

Eugene Holman

P.S. Familiarize yourself with Latvian money *before* you arrive, and
check your change carefully. The smallest banknote is five lats
[http://www.tripsource.com/stories/Da...ages/lats.jpg;
http://www.bank.lv/eng/main/lvnaud/b...e174a300fde13],
worth almost ten US dollars. Since prices are relatively low, you tend to
use more coins and fewer banknotes than in many countries. I have not been
able to find pictures of Latvian coins on the internet, but I have been
ripped off once in Latvia when I was given a Romanian two lei coin en lieu
of a Latvian two lats coin * the both have 2L on the face side, so it is
easy to confuse them * as change. Two Romanian lei is worth virtually
nothing, while two lats is almost four US dollars.

The wrong side of the river? It is only a ten minute walk to the main
tourist area. And there is a bus (I cannot remember the number of it)
that goes from the "good side" to just a short distance from the hotel.
I stayed there in 2001. It is a typical SAS Radisson. Sorry, I did
not use the pool or gym, as I was not there very long. I seem to
remember the breakfast was very nice.

What the hell are you doing going to Riga and wondering about the pool
and gym for christs sake?????

Riga has heaps to occupy you, and you don't wanna be hanging around
the hotel. All those Radissons are the same.

Check out the collosal market they have there. It's just awesome!

In five buildings originally built to store dirigibles, no less.

That's just for early evening relaxation. You need a rest after
wandering around the city all day, but before you go out in the
evening to party :-) (Keeping up an 18 hour day when travelling can be
hard work!)

Some people would just watch TV in their room for a while. I prefer a
"gentle" workout followed by a swim and a sauna.
