Some of the best Pizza I know of is to be had in Split (Croatie). Some
of the worst is in Rome (at the airport...)...

I have to say something remarkable here, which is that the best cappucino I have
ever had was in - - Russia!
Being from the US, the remarkable thing (to me) is not that a decent cup of
coffee is more expensive in the UK, US, etc. It is like the talking dog. The
surprising thing is that it exists at all. I wish I could recreate the feeling
I got when I had my first cup of French coffee.

I have had good Pizza on the Cote d'Azur, but then that is "really" Italy,
right?

This is generally a good policy. For example, in China I only drink tea,
which they know how to make, rather than any sort of coffee, which is
usually made with a powder. However, my husband and I had some good
espresso in London last November, in more than one place.
I don't think good espresso has to be made by an Italian. But you need
the right sort of machine and the right sort of coffee, and the right
technique.

I go to Italy at least once a year, but I have never had as good an espresso
(or cappucino) there as the one I get in my kitchen. The cafe bars in Italy
serve in such quantities that, for one thing, they use standard commercial

Might I suggest that next time you are in Rome you go to Caffe'
Sant'Eustachio in Piazza S. Eustachio and try the espresso. There is nothing
from Chicago that can come close to it.
However, de gustibus non disputandum est...as the old Roman said...you might
not agree.

In london it can be 2-50 and UP UP ,depends on location of shops and
the high rents they have to pay.

like wildfire here in the UK over the last few years...
