we loved Palazzo Murat. It is in the pedestrian part of town and has
lovely lemon grove around it though in the midst of the city with
views of the sea
here is their website

Hi.
The few hotels I know of in Positano are:
Le Sirenuse (www.sirenuse.it)
Hotel San Pietro
Eden Roc
I have not personally stayed at them, however did make a stop at the
San Pietro and thought it was gorgeous. When I last loked into
staying in Positano a couple years ago, many people recommended the
others to me. You may want to look at their web sites; also Travel
and Leisure magazine rated these hotels very highly.

I think that you might find more people able to help you, Michael, if
you indicated what you mean by a "great" hotel. I've just spent a couple
of weeks in what I thought was a great hotel, the Hotel Europa in
Desenzano - a smallish, reasonably priced, 3-star hotel, with no
printed menu, but the head waitress telling the customers each morning
what was on for lunch and/or dinner. I was particularly impressed by
their helpfulness, on my first holiday since a heart attack, in meeting
me at the station to help with luggage.
If going furher south, I would think a similar establishment in Positano
would be "great", but I'm not sure if that's what you mean or if you are
looking for a "grand hotel" environment.

How did you get on with holiday insurance after reporting a heart attack? I
told them that I have hypertesion controlled by medication. They asked how
many tablets I was taking each day. I told them two, actually it is 1½ and
they put a £300 excess on any European claims and £600 on US or Canada.

A great hotel:
Fabulous views (Ocean view?/ Gardens?)
Strong shower (hot)
Firm bed (no sag in middle)
Friendly service/staff (helpful, available)
Clean.
Can you recommend a hotel?

My previous insurer, Direct Line, didn't want to know, basically. They were
happy to go on taking my money, but would exclude any heart-related
condition. I got insurance, at about £22 for fifteen days, through Chapman
Hearst (or maybe Hurst), one of the agencies recommended by the British
Heart Foundation. If you find the BHF website, it has al ist of helpful
companies.

Hotel Palazzo Murat.
Might be a little weak on the shower part, but the rooms were
beautiful, the staff was amazingly attentive, great beds, large
rooms, absolutely gorgeous balconies overlooking their own gardens,
Positano, and the coastline. Get an upstairs room. The
restaurant is pretty good too.

Best hotel, Le Sirenuse. Best Ristorante on the beach, Chez Black. Hope
you have deep pockets!
