Portugal (w/family) advice
Dear Portugal oficianados,
My wife and I will be spending 3 weeks in Portugal with our 2 year old
son this March. I am asking assistance / advice from those of you who know of
any special places and / or hotels that would be especially receptive to "Liam"
(our little guy).
Since it's low season, I'm thinking that we only need to commit to our
first few nights. Here's our very general plan.
02 March: Arrive Lisbon mid-day. Transfer directly to Sintra.
We are thinking about the hotel Residencial Sintra for 3 or 4 nights.
The thought is to use Sintra as a base to explore the area as well as Lisbon.
Then, with a rental car, we are thinking of going north along the coast and
possibly do a counter clockwise loop coming back south to end the trip with a
few days in the Algarve. We fly back home from Lisbon on March 21st.
Since we'll have a car, we'd like to find a few areas that would be good to
use as a base where we could do daytrips from.
You guys have any ideas?
As far as hotels, the ideal would be places that are family operated. Our son
is gregarious and would love the chance to play with local kids.
If anyone knows of Portugese families who would rent a room or apartment to an
American family, that would probably be the ideal situation.
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.

Re: Portugal (w/family) advice
Your itinerary sounds wonderful.
I think hoping to find companions for your child is asking 'us' and also
expecting to find such, much too optimistic.
I would definitely think, despite my negative notes above, your best bet
is with one of the larger hotels in the Algarve. I liked Albufeira the
best. My favorite there, has changed its name so I don't know it now,
but it was right on the beach -- wonderful.

it in the street and frighten the horses".

Re: Portugal (w/family) advice
Dear Mr Johnson,
Just picked up your request for travel advice on Portugal on the
rec.travel.europe newsgroup.
Why not swing by the Western Algarve and back up the West Coast via
Lisbon. Visit Lagos where we are based ...the origin of many of the
voyages of discovery as well as nearby Sagres. Now the Algarve Coastal
Motorway is open to Lagoa (20 miles from Lagos) - The whole Algarve as
well as Seville in Andalucia can easily be visited on day trips from
Lagos
Please see our web-site http://www.docemaralgarve.com/ for more info.
You will also find details on our rooms, apartments and villa there.
(Rooms - Minimum stay 2 days - in March - Apartments - Minimum stay 4
days - in March)
