... Really? I don't know what it means (and really don't care) - for SOME
... of the alleged "Americans" posting here, "unpleasant" pejoratives seem
... singularly apt.

Nancy does not seem aware that merkin is a "beard".

With Frog, it's only since Bush. I had a friend, who was British, and she
and I had a genealogical research organisation which we called "Frogs,"
simply because we were both dual nationals, she was British/French, I was
American/French. Obviously we would not have called ourselves this if we
felt it was derogatory. She died some years back and our organisation died
with her. Just one was not enough to carry it on. I still miss my fellow
Frog.

So the term 'nigger' is not derogatory, good grief.

Frog as an affectionate term? Must be a leap of faith. I grew up in Montreal
and the the term Frog and Pepsi were used for the Francophones.
What did I know I was just a kid Canuck

I think your statement could very well apply to Kerry as well especially
changing is stories.

Should that happen just join the crowds in the streets...

But it won't because they aren't that dumb. Can you imagine the voter
turn out percentage if someone would be stupid enough to tell people
they *can't* vote... I'm very serious here; the 'status quo' *count* on
half the citizens *not* taking an interest in an election which is
unfortunately true in the US.

I decided differently after I wore out the scroll wheel on Two mice
reading buried one line Usenet replies...

But I'll be nice since you where; Times change and therefore procedures
do too. Bottom posting is an ancient convection when post and reply
often took weeks to propagate; today it usually happens within minutes.
I therefore now have the attention span to remember what was said in the
virtual 'conversation' Usenet has become. IF I don't remember, a
reminder is there buried out of view and as we all know, Google is my
friend of last resort...<g>

Funny you should mention that; the reality is that being fairly well
spoken and from the Midwest, as I traveled Europe recently at least
Three different people commented on what "perfect English" I spoke, as
compared to Australians, English, etc, because of their 'accent'...

IMO the average Englishman and Australian speaks more 'correct' English
than the average American too; particularly young Americans, but that is
negated by the accent, particularly to someone that may not have English
as a first language...

So in actuality most discern me as without any accent whatsoever.

Or another example of some Europeans inability to comprehend the written
word...<g>

The only thing this American can 'divine' about Magda from her usual
prose has nothing to do with her accent...

I thought that was an Australian derisive term for an Aborigine...?

Dozens, possible hundreds. I'm not writing any of them.

You'll notice that the original lists doesn't include any terms for
blacks. Also, where's gweilo, gaijin, skip and honky?

all more or less derogatory except when reclaimed and used by the
target people in the way queer has been claimed.

Is it correct or incorrect the Bush was a fighter pilot?

It's an irritating word, but ISTM it's most used here by an American...
